Labour actions and strikes continue to increase in China

As previously reported, workers in China are increasingly prepared to take independent actions in their fight for their rights. This year, the eastern coastal province of Shandong and the south east province of Guandong have seen the highest number of strikes. Many of these disputes relate to the increasing number of workers who are losing their job or facing wage cuts, due to the continuing slow down of the Chinese economy. The main sectors experiencing job losses are the manufacturing, construction, mining sectors and state-owned enterprises.
