Australia Post activities highlight the plight of vulnerable workers

Earlier this week, police in the southern city of Melbourne arrested three directors of a company that supplied contract and casual workers to Australia Post for its sorting and delivery services. Australia Post is slowly being corporatised and privatised by successive Australian governments. This has led Australia Post to cut costs in search for greater profits. This has meant an attack on workers employment conditions and the privatisation and outsourcing of its workforce. Sub contracting companies have come in to supply ‘low cost’ workers by exploiting Australia’s student and short term work visas system. The use of these highly vulnerable workers is a growing problem in Australia as companies seek higher profits, see here and here.
