Unions call for international action on repression in Turkey

It has been over three weeks since the first protests against the redevelopment of Gezi Park in central Istanbul.  The protests sparked mass demonstrations against growing authoritarianism and inequality in Turkey. The response of the government has been to unleash wave after wave of police baton charges, backed up with the use of huge amounts of chemical agents and water cannons. Arrests are continuing. International trade union federations have called for global days of protest at Turkish embassies and consulates. While the mass demonstrations have subsided for now, the protests have highlighted the class division in Turkey
