Taiwan protests force temporary halt to new nuclear power station

With the recent ground breaking protests against the autocratic nature of the Taiwanese government still fresh in people’s minds, there was another massive mobilisation in Taipei. Earlier this week, tens of thousands of labour, human rights and peace activists came out to protest against the governments plans to build a new nuclear plant. Even though the government moved against the protestors with police and water cannons, the movement was strong enough to halt construction at the nuclear plant.
