South Korean unionists still in jail

In the middle of last year, workers at the auto engine component factory Yoosung went on strike to protest against the abolishing of night shift classification. A solidarity rally organised by the KCTU was held in support of the striking workers. This rally was attacked by the police and many unionists were arrested. Eleven union members are still in jail and Korean unions are calling for their immediate release. For more information, click here.

Han Sang Kyun, Chairman of the Ssangyong Motor Company Union (KMWU), remains in prison for his union activity during the Ssangyong strike and occupation in 2009.  For more information about Han Sang Kyun and other trade unionists who are still in prison for their union activity, visit the Free Our Comrades page.
