Manufacturing workers struggles continue in India

A long running dispute at two Holcim cement factories against the practice of hiring contract workers at lower wages is still continuing. While international pressure had forced the company to admit to industrial issues, their response has been to set up sham yellow unions. Union activists are now being targeted by the company with criminal charges taken out against them.

As previously reported, Sarralle workers in Kolkatha have been conducting a sit in strike since early February in order to win the right to form their own union. In the last week, the workers have had to withstand intimidation from both the police and hired thugs who raided the factory compound. For more information click here
