Labour and human rights activists attacked in Pakistan

The last two weeks have seen more attacks against the workers movement in Pakistan with the assassination of human rights advocate Rashid Rahman in his office in Multan, and the brutal beating of labour leader Aslam Miraj in Faisalabad. Rahman was renowned for defending people against state sanctioned injustices, Miraj is an organiser in the brick kiln industry – a sector renowned for exploitation, repression and terrible health and safety conditions for workers. Faisalabad is also the city where six textile workers are serving 80 years in jail each for organising demonstrations.
