Indonesian electronics workers fight union busting by global company

Hundreds of workers employed by the global technology company Philips have gone on strike on Batam Island in Indonesia over the company’s union busting tactics. Workers had registered a new union earlier this year. In response, the company pressured every individual worker not to join the union and dismissed 83 union members. The dismissed workers have been supported by the other workers with the union signing up hundreds more members in the last month. Philips employs over 110,000 workers around the world. Industrial action by these workers will be the most effective solidarity action in order to stop union busting in Indonesia and getting all the sacked workers reinstated.
