India: Villagers and left parties stop asbestos factory construction

In the aftermath of the announcement of the stoppage of construction work for a hazardous Asbestos Cement Plant in Chainpur-Bishunpur, Marwan, Muzaffarpur, nine political parties have sent a joint letter to the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar seeking permanent closure of the asbestos factory. The letter expressed their support for the struggle of the villagers’ Committee over the last six months. The letter calls for the unconditional release of the arrested leaders of the Committee and sought action against the culprits who fired on and lathi charged peaceful protestors. More info here.
