Hitachi tries to silence Malaysian journalist

Charles Hector is an independent journalist who earlier this year exposed the terrible working conditions of 31 Burmese workers at Asahi Kosei, a subsidiary of the Hitachi company.

In retaliation the company filed a libel suit against Charles for up to 2.3 million Euros. This is a blatant attempt by companies to silence workers and their allies from protesting and organising about their conditions.

Charles Hector trial is now at the end of August. Unionists and workers all over the world have responded to solidarity appeals to support Charles and the right for workers to organise to improve their conditions. For more information and solidarity actions, click here.
