Garment workers win compensation but not justice

In an historic compensation deal, the survivors and the families of the 260 workers who were killed in a fire at the Ali Enterprise on 11 September 2012, are to receive compensation. The deal comes after four long years of campaigning by a number of labour organisations, both within Pakistan and internationally. While the amount to be paid is small, US $5 Million, it will still provide some benefits to the hundreds of affected people. Nevertheless, the fight to bring the owners of the factory to justice for this crime continues as well as the fight for better OHS for all workers in Pakistan.
