Ford motor factory closures in Australia not an isolated case

This week the Ford Motor company announced the intention to close its factories in Melbourne, Australia by 2016. This will put an estimated 1,200 workers out of a job. This is not an isolated case with car companies all over the world shifting production, increasing the work intensity, and outsourcing and cutting jobs to maintain profits during this period of economic crisis. This has resulted in a large number of strikes all over the world, with ongoing disputes at Ssangyong in Korea and Maruti in India. The automotive industry is one of the most globalised in the world. This demands a global response by workers in terms of organising and actions
