Extent of global sub-contracting exposed

A new report by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) has provided more evidence of how companies use sub-contracting arrangements to lower wages and conditions. The report analysed 50 global companies and found that they directly employed only 6% of their workforce. The remaining 116 million workers were employed across a vast, global network of supply chain companies in a massive ‘Race to the Bottom’ arrangement (see here, here and here). Only by organising workers globally across countries will workers be able to fight back against the power of these companies.
