Worker sacked, ripped off while on honeymoon

Mani Saravanan came to Australia on a 457 visa to work as a fabricator for Ironbark Fabrications in Moree. Mani saved all his annual leave and used it to go to India to get married.

While on his honeymoon, Mani received a termination letter by the company via email. The company has denied his annual leave entitlements, despite being required to do so under Australian law, and he was not reimbursed his $700 that he had given his employer to pay for his permanent resident application.

The Construction Forestry Mining Energy Union is supporting Mani and demanding action from the Federal Government to put an end to this type of exploitation of vulnerable guest workers. Click here for more information from the CFMEU.
