Treatment of refugees by Australian government sinks to new levels

This week the Australian government legislated to increase its repressive powers over asylum seekers and refugees. The Australian Government has now effectively destroyed its commitment to the International Refugee Convention by creating special and secret powers to stop asylum seekers from settling in Australia. The government now explicitly says that it will return asylum seekers to the regimes and countries from where they came, at risk of detention, torture and death. Protests are being organised all around Australia against this new attack on one of the weakest sections of the working class. It is our duty as workers to stand in solidarity and fight for our rights together.
