New union in Burma

Tai Yi workers strike 2010In an historic move, close to a1,000 workers at the Tai Yi footwear factory in Burma’s capital, Yangon, have said that they will form a new union to represent their interests. Around 1,800 workers at this factory have been on strike since early February around improvement in wages and working conditions. Currently the workers wage is US $0.09/hr with a monthly bonus of US $7.50. For more information, click here.
