Iranian unionist still on long term hunger strike

Jafar Azmimzadeh, the Chairperson of the Free Union of Iranian Workers, has been on a hunger strike for almost 50 days. Jafar has been on a hunger strike to protest against his 6 year jail sentence on fabricated political charges aimed at stopping his labour activities. He smuggled a recorded message out of prison. This is not the first time that Jafar has been arrested for union activities. His hunger strike has been supported by other political prisoners in jail, the Canadian Union of Public Employees has called for his immediate release, and labour activists internationally have signed onto a protest letter to the Iranian government.
