In recent times many Iranian labour activists have had to spend many years in jail as the Iranian government tries to contain workers anger against workplace pay and conditions, see here, here, here and here. Many of these unionists end up at the notorious Evin prison. It was in this prison that earlier this month, guards and militias rampaged through the prison and targeted left wing prisoners in their assaults. It is hoped that this event is not a prelude to another massacre of prisoners like the one that happened in the summer of 1988.
