Indian workers request solidarity for their sit in strike

Around 100 workers employed by the Spanish steel multinational Sarralle in Kolkata have been conducting a sit in strike for a month. The workers had been trying to organise a union within the company to get better conditions. The company responded by dismissing 18 of these workers and also by organising local goons to break the strike. The plant is in a new industrial zone of West Bengal and represents one of the first attempts to unionise this new industrial workforce.
