Global day of action for Mexican unions

14 February: 20,000 workers rally in Mexico city. Solidarity rallies in 40 countries.
Five years ago an explosion at Grupo México’s Pasta de Conchos coal mine killed 65 miners. The Mexican government failed to investigate or prosecute those responsible. Instead the Mexican government has escalated its attacks on the Mexican Miners’ Union (SNTMMSRM), after it demanded justice and the recovery of the miners’ bodies. Read more here
Many Mexican unions including the Mexican Electrical Workers’ Union (SME), have also faced violent attacks, intimidation and repression of trade union rights. Solidarity campaigns have been organised by many unions internationally.  More on solidarity here
