Garment workers still awaiting compensation

As we reported last week, garment workers’ conditions will only improve when workers are organised enough to win better pay and conditions. This week, news came that injured workers and families of dead workers from the Rana Plaza collapse, the Tazreen fire, and the fire at the Ali Enterprise fire in Karachi are still waiting for proper compensation. The Pakistan Labour Federation held a commemoration for the first year anniversary of the Karachi fire calling for justice for workers. Industrial disasters like these are the result of the brutal and criminal ‘race to the bottom’ that companies engage in, in their chase for bigger and bigger profits.
