Garment workers in Cambodia win dispute

After three months of struggle and police harassment, almost 2,000 dismissed workers were able to win back their redundancy entitlements. The workers had been employed by the Supertex garment factory, but when it closed down in June, the company refused to pay the workers the correct redundancy amounts.

Supertex was ordered to pay workers indemnity, damages, lost salary, annual leave and unpaid wages by the Cambodian Arbitration Council.

The protest was organised by the Cambodian Independent Workers Union and this dispute comes on the back of the great worker mobilisations of 2010
