Despite repression Chinese workers continue to take action

As reported previously, workers in China are becoming more willing to take industrial action to defend their interests. Recently released labour statistics show that in the last 5 years there has been an ever increasing number of strikes in China. In addition, the experiences of going on strike are spurring workers to become more involved in union activities. On the 26th anniversary of the Tiananmen crackdown in Bejing, the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions has launched an appeal for greater workers’ rights in China.
