Bangladesh Garment Workers Make Basic Demands

The National Garment Workers Federation (NGWF) at a press conference on May 15, 2011 demanded special allocation in five areas in the National Budget of the country for the fiscal year 2011-12. The NGWF also announced a set of action programs to realize the following demands:

A full rationing system (low priced essential goods supply) for garment workers.
Ten ‘safe delivery centers’ in the garment industry areas for women garment workers
Fifteen child care centers in the garment industry areas
A transportation network for garment workers
A low-cost colony (housing) for garment workers built on government land in suburban areas
