Australian Government forms ‘axis of repression’ with Sri Lanka

The Australian government has reached new levels of repression by conducting acts of piracy in the Indian Ocean and taking control of two boats of asylum seekers. The first boat, containing 41 people was forced back and handed over to the Sri Lankan government whose trampling of human rights is internationally recognised. The second group of people, numbering around 150, is thought to be held in a Navy prison ship somewhere in the Indian Ocean. In a move to underscore the close collaboration between the two governments, Australia’s Immigration Minister, Scott Morrison, visited Sri Lanka this week. Protests against the Australian Government are continuing.
